Power utility firm Kenya Power is set to roll out out new reduced charges for power connection. The move follows President Uhuru Kenyatta’s announcement of reduced cost of power installation from Sh35000 to Sh15000.
Kenya Power Managing Director Dr. Ben Chumo said the reduced power connection scheme will cost the company about Sh13.5 billion to extend low voltage networks from its existing 5320 transformers in the first phase of implementation.
Chumo added that the phase targets the connection of 312000 new household customers translating to 1.5 million Kenyans on top of the company’s current 3.3 million customer base.
“This phase is targeted at maximizing the existing transformers to ensure no one within 600 metres from a transformer is without power.
